# Install and onboard

## What it does

After you install Wand Referrals from the Shopify App Store, a guided **onboarding** flow helps you set up your first program and start tracking. Until you finish (or skip) onboarding, the app sends you to the setup flow.

## Step 1 — Tell us where you're starting

The welcome survey asks how you're starting:

* **"I don't have any affiliates"** — a **recruit** path focused on building a program from scratch.
* **"I already have affiliates"** — a **manage** path focused on getting existing affiliates set up and tracking.

Your answer tailors the remaining steps.

## The recruit path

1. **Brand introduction** — brand name, main industry, and your registration subpath (the URL where affiliates sign up). You can change these later.
2. **Program settings** — choose your promotion methods (affiliate **link** and/or **coupon**), the default **commission type** (percent of sales / flat per item / flat per order), and the amount.
3. **Registration page** — preview your affiliate signup page and copy its live URL.

## The manage path

1. **Recruit affiliates** — create a test affiliate and activate it.
2. **Test tracking** — click your test affiliate's link and confirm the app detects the click ("Tracking is working").
3. **Payout methods** — pick how you'll pay affiliates (PayPal, bank transfer, store credit, and more).

## Finishing

Completing the final step (or choosing **Skip setup**) marks onboarding done and takes you into the app (a first step lands you on the **Plan** page to choose a billing tier). You can revisit any setting later from the relevant page or **Settings**.
