# Bonuses and milestones

## Rollout status

The commission runtime contains support for welcome, recruit, and milestone awards, but the merchant admin does not currently provide a supported workflow for creating or editing executable bonus rules. The Motivation page stores planning/readiness settings only; it does not configure runtime rules.

Treat automatic bonus execution as **production rollout pending**. Do not promise or launch a bonus until Wand Referrals exposes the dedicated configuration workflow and the rule is validated with a test order. Do not edit stored rule JSON directly.

| Bonus               | What it rewards                                               |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Welcome bonus**   | A one-time reward when an affiliate joins/activates           |
| **Recruit bonus**   | A reward when an affiliate recruits a new sub-affiliate (MLM) |
| **Milestone bonus** | A reward when an affiliate crosses a performance threshold    |

## Planned milestone behavior

Milestones let you reward cumulative performance. Each milestone rule defines:

* **Target metric** — referrals, sales amount, or commission amount.
* **Threshold** — the value that triggers the bonus.
* **Type & amount** — flat or percent.
* **Schedule** — one-time, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.
* An optional **label** shown to the affiliate.

For a provider-configured rule, the runtime evaluates the threshold and records a separate auditable commission row. Recurring schedules can re-award by period. These capabilities are not a merchant-ready feature until the supported editor and production rollout gate are complete.

## Welcome and recruit bonus status

* **Welcome bonus** — runtime support exists, but no supported merchant configuration workflow is currently available.
* **Recruit bonus** — runtime and affiliate-portal display support exist for configured MLM campaigns, but merchant configuration remains rollout-gated. ## Where affiliates see progress

The portal can display progress for a provider-configured milestone rule. A Motivation readiness setting alone does not create that rule or enable progress.
